Don’t let Gov. Cooper freeze Opportunity Scholarships
The Opportunity Scholarship Program is a school voucher system in North Carolina that provides low income students with up to $4,200 to attend a private school of their choice. In the last four years, the program’s participation rate has increased by 83 percent. This year alone, almost 10,000 scholarships have already been awarded.
This is good news for low income and minority students who benefit the most from these vouchers. But Governor Roy Cooper wants to freeze funding for these scholarships–the first step in phasing out the program altogether.
If you want to continue giving North Carolinians from all backgrounds the opportunity to succeed, sign the petition to ask Governor Cooper to increase funding for Opportunity Scholarships in his 2019-2020 budget.
